Every morning when I wake up, I have a glass of water with lemon. After about half an hour, I have a green juice. And then about half an hour after that, I have breakfast. This is what I call my morning ritual, along with my morning meditation, gratitude diary, dry skin brushing, and stretching on my yoga mat.
But then there are those days when I want to change things up a bit. Perhaps I don’t feel like having a green juice, have run out of veggies, or want a lighter breakfast. Sometimes (rarely, since I work at home), I’m rushing out of the house first thing in the morning, and need to eat something quickly that will keep me energized throughout the day. On days like this, I usually swap my juice and breakfast for something in between the two: a smoothie.
What I like about smoothies is that you can add as much or as little to them as you wish, making them into a light drink or turning them into a sturdy and satisfying meal. This oatmeal smoothie is the latter, and I recommend you drink it warm for a gentle yet energy-packed start to your day during the fall & winter.
I created the recipe for a slideshow of winter smoothies I did for Livestrong.com, and you can find it by clicking here.
